High-Power Laser Therapy for Osteoarthritis of the Knee

Patient:

a 55-year-old woman, presented with right knee pain for 1 year.

Evaluation and examination:

● Bilateral quadriceps atrophy of mild to moderate degree, muscle weakness, obvious on the right side;
● Positive patellar grinding test;
● Positive meniscus extrusion test;
● Retro-knee compression pain (+); infrapatellar compression pain (+).

Diagnostic imaging:

● Meniscal degeneration of the right knee (grade 3), lateral meniscus degeneration (grade 2)
● Anterior and posterior cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament injuries of the right knee

● Bursa of the knee, suprapatellar bursa effusion, suprapatellar bursa synovial thickening

Treatment plan: Comprehensive diagnosis and treatment of knee meniscus and ligament injuries, anti-inflammatory treatment of soft tissues around the knee joint and intra-articular cavity, symptomatic drug treatment, manual relaxation of muscles around the knee joint combined with physical factor high-energy laser treatment, laser twice a week for 4 consecutive weeks, treatment time 10 minutes, and exercise therapy to improve core muscle strength and lower limb muscle strength and improve overall function.
