High-Power Laser Therapy for Acute Lumbar Sprain

Patient:

a 40 years old male, years of lumbar protrusion, fitness enthusiast, came for evaluation and reconstruction due to a 3-day episode of lumbar pain while working out.

Assessment and examination:

● Lumbar curvature straight
● VAS = 4 points
● Lumbar soft tissue tenderness (+)
● Lumbar anterior flexion and posterior extension side of the activity is slightly limited, accompanied by pain
● Straight leg raising test negative; object raising test positive

Diagnostic imaging:

● MRI: lumbar 5 sacral 1 protruding
● Lumbar 5 vertebral body haemangioma

Treatment plan: Comprehensive evaluation and diagnosis and treatment standards for chronic lumbar protrusion and acute lumbar sprain, manual loosening and joint loosening for the lumbar muscles combined with physical high-energy laser treatment, mainly for the lumbar quadratus and erector spinae near the sacrum for 15 minutes, and together with lumbar functional exercises to improve joint mobility.
Treatment results: After one treatment, the pain was greatly relieved, the range of motion improved, and the follow-up after one week was basically normal.
