Case Study on the Application of High-Intensity Laser Therapy for Pruritus | Case Sharing

In the field of clinical veterinary medicine, pruritus is a common dermatological symptom widely present across a spectrum of small animal diseases, significantly affecting pets’ quality of life. High-intensity laser therapy, as a novel physical treatment method, has been increasingly applied in veterinary medicine in recent years. Through high-energy density laser irradiation, it promotes tissue repair, alleviates pain, and improves blood circulation.

This report documents the clinical application of the VETMEDIX veterinary laser device in treating pruritus in cats, showcasing how high-intensity laser brings comfort to pets.

Case Summary

Short-term Recovery:

Dr. Chen, Director of Ruipai Kangnuo Pet Hospital, conducted a thorough examination of Xiaopang and decided to adopt a combined treatment plan of high-intensity laser therapy and medication. The laser targeted the inflamed area on the skin, effectively calming the nerve cells and reducing the transmission of itching signals at the source. The visible itchiness was significantly relieved. With the aid of medicated baths and oral antibiotics, the affected area returned to normal after five treatments, and scratching behavior decreased.

Long-term Follow-up:

During follow-up, the frequency of Xiaopang’s scratching had significantly decreased. Redness and swelling on the skin had subsided, and the damaged skin had begun to scab. Two weeks later, the scabs naturally fell off, revealing newly grown fur, and the skin returned to its former smoothness. The owner reported that Xiaopang could finally sleep peacefully again, becoming his lively, cheerful self—no longer agitated or irritable.

Conclusion

In this case, high-intensity laser therapy played a crucial role in treating Xiaopang’s pruritus. VETMEDIX applies photobiomodulation (PBM) for non-invasive treatment in small animals, providing gentle yet deep anti-inflammatory effects. It eliminates the need for irritating medications, avoids additional skin burden, and circumvents common issues of traditional treatments such as dryness or allergic reactions. It ensures comfort and health for the skin throughout the healing process.
