Laser lipolysis, also known as laser liposuction or laser lift, received United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval in October 2006. Laser lipolysis is a minimally – invasive cosmetic procedure that uses laser energy to break down fat cells, stimulate both the deep and superficial layers of the skin and connective tissue, and promote the formation of new collagen.
The procedure can be carried out on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. A thin laser fiber is inserted subcutaneously into the tissue to be treated and is continuously moved while the pilot beam, visible through the skin, promotes the dissolution of fatty tissue in various regions such as the face, eyelid, chin, neck, upper arms, abdomen, back, hips, inner thighs, outer thighs, knees, calves, and ankles.
