Vetmedix Case Sharing丨Application Case of High-Energy Laser in Treating Canine Ringworm

Introduction
Canine ringworm is a common fungal skin disease in dogs, typically manifested as localized hair loss forming circular or irregular bald patches, accompanied by intense itching that leads to frequent scratching and biting. This can result in skin breakage and exudation. If left untreated, the fungus can rapidly spread to the trunk, limbs, and even the face. The damaged skin is prone to secondary bacterial infections, forming pustules, and in severe cases, may lead to generalized hair loss and thickened, crusted skin. This not only affects the dog’s appearance and mobility but may also be transmitted to other pets or humans through contact. Traditional treatments primarily involve oral antifungal medications combined with topical ointments. However, oral medications require long-term administration, which can increase the metabolic burden on the liver and kidneys. Additionally, the treatment course is lengthy, and the recurrence rate is high.

High-energy laser therapy is currently an advanced treatment method in veterinary dermatology for fungal skin diseases. It is safe, non-invasive, highly effective in relieving itching and reducing inflammation, and has no drug side effects. In recent years, it has been widely used in the treatment of stubborn skin conditions such as canine ringworm. By irradiating the affected area with high-energy laser at specific wavelengths, it can penetrate the skin surface to inhibit fungal activity and reduce pathogen growth, while also improving local skin microcirculation, delivering nutrients to damaged hair follicles, alleviating itching symptoms to minimize scratching damage, and accelerating skin mucosal repair and hair regeneration. This significantly shortens the treatment cycle.

This report provides a complete record of the treatment process for canine ringworm using the Vetmedix veterinary laser device, demonstrating how high-energy laser therapy can dispel stubborn skin diseases and revitalize healthy fur in dogs.

05 Case Summary
Short-term recovery:
The pet suffered from skin breakage and intense itching due to canine ringworm. The team at Hefei Aita Pet Hospital employed Vetmedix high-energy laser for targeted treatment. During the process, leveraging the precise wavelength modulation function of the Vetmedix laser device, the treatment could be accurately applied to the affected area, quickly controlling the spread of infection without damaging surrounding healthy skin tissue. The bioregulatory effects of the laser also rapidly alleviated skin itching, reducing secondary damage caused by scratching, while promoting local blood circulation and providing ample nutrients for hair follicle repair. After three laser therapy sessions, the pet’s itching symptoms completely disappeared, skin barrier function was largely restored, and appetite and mental state returned to normal.

Long-term follow-up:
A re-examination half a month after discharge showed that the pet’s hair grew uniformly and densely in the affected area, with no new lesions. No scratching behavior was observed during daily activities, skin elasticity was good, and there were no signs of recurrence.

Conclusion
This case strongly demonstrates the significant efficacy of Vetmedix small animal high-energy laser rehabilitation therapy for canine ringworm. Through its photobiomodulation (PBM) mechanism, high-energy laser acts on fungal skin lesion areas in a non-invasive manner, controlling infection, reducing skin inflammation and itching symptoms, improving local microcirculation, activating hair follicle stem cell activity, and accelerating skin repair and hair regeneration. This significantly shortens the lengthy treatment course required by traditional methods.
