Vetmedix Case Sharing | Application Case of class 4 laser therapy in Treating Forelimb Fracture

Introduction
Forelimb fractures can cause immediate lameness, severe pain with crying, rapid swelling, and avoidance upon the slightest touch. If left untreated, misalignment of the fracture ends can damage nerves and blood vessels, leading to nonunion, malunion, or permanent lameness. Traditional treatments primarily involve surgical reduction and fixation with pins/plates, which are highly invasive, require long recovery periods, and may be limited in cases of osteoporosis, infection, or soft tissue defects. class 4 laser therapy is currently the most advanced non-invasive physical rehabilitation method, offering rapid results without side effects. It has been widely applied in veterinary orthopedics in recent years—by delivering high-energy density laser irradiation, it instantly enhances osteoblast activity, inhibits inflammatory factors, and accelerates simultaneous healing of bone callus and soft tissues, significantly shortening the recovery period.
This report fully documents the clinical application of the Vetmedix veterinary laser device in treating a dog’s forelimb fracture, demonstrating how high-energy laser therapy helps furry friends regain the strength to run.

05 Case Summary
Short-Term Recovery:
The veterinary team at Hefei Aita Pet Hospital immediately developed a class 4 laser therapy rehabilitation plan for the pet upon diagnosing its forelimb fracture. After six precise class 4 laser therapy sessions, the swelling on the inner and outer sides of the forelimb significantly subsided, pain response upon touch greatly reduced, and mobility of the fracture site gradually improved. On the sixth day of treatment, the pet met all discharge criteria and was sent home with medication for consolidation therapy as per the veterinarian’s instructions. During suture removal, the wound was found to be healing smoothly without redness or swelling, with no signs of infection or poor healing.

Long-Term Follow-Up:
Upon reexamination, the pet’s bone density and joint mobility were normal, with no lameness or secondary fractures, achieving an ideal healing state. The owner reported that the pet was “more lively than before the injury” and expressed great satisfaction with the treatment outcome.

Conclusion
This case strongly demonstrates the significant effectiveness of Vetmedix small animal high-energy laser rehabilitation therapy in treating canine forelimb fractures. class 4 laser therapy utilizes photobiomodulation (PBM) to provide non-invasive treatment for small animals. By improving local blood circulation in the affected area, rapidly reducing inflammation and pain, and accelerating the repair of epithelial and granulation tissues, it significantly shortens the wound healing period and avoids the long-term use of high-dose antibiotics and analgesics along with their side effects.
