导言

Canine gingival hyperplasia with chronic inflammation leads to red, swollen, and protruding gums, severe oral odor, and avoidance of food due to gum pain. If left untreated, the hyperplastic tissue continues to compress the teeth, hindering oral hygiene, and may induce periodontal ligament infections, tooth loosening, and even tooth loss in severe cases, affecting normal eating and nutrient absorption. Traditional treatment primarily involves conventional scalpel excision of hyperplastic tissue, but this method results in large wound areas, significant intraoperative bleeding, and a high risk of infection due to the moist oral environment post-surgery, along with a prolonged gum mucosal recovery period.

High-energy laser therapy is an advanced minimally invasive cutting technique in veterinary dentistry, known for its precision, safety, rapid recovery, and minimal side effects. In recent years, it has been widely used for treating gingival hyperplasia. By delivering high-energy-density laser beams precisely to the hyperplastic gingival tissue, it quickly excises and removes the pathological tissue while simultaneously sealing tiny blood vessels to reduce intraoperative bleeding. Additionally, it inhibits the activity of inflammatory factors and promotes the regeneration of gum mucosal cells, significantly shortening the postoperative recovery period and reducing the risk of infection.

This report documents the complete process of using the VETMEDIX 兽用激光设备 to perform laser excision surgery for canine gingival hyperplasia with chronic inflammation, demonstrating how high-energy laser therapy helps pets regain healthy oral conditions and the joy of pain-free eating.

  • Treatment Date: June 25, 2025
  • 治疗方案:
    • Surgical Mode: Power 4–6W, Continuous Mode
    • Technique: Use the optical fiber parallel to the tooth surface to excise small areas of hyperplasia. For larger hyperplastic areas, use the fiber for ablation and hemostasis first, then employ a blade to cut along the hemostasis line. Control the laser emission time based on intraoperative conditions.

05 案例摘要

Short-Term Recovery:
The patient, Yuanbao, had previously undergone traditional scalpel excision for gingival hyperplasia, but the hyperplastic tissue regrew post-surgery. The veterinary team at Dechong Animal Hospital conducted a detailed oral examination to assess the recurrence scope and the state of gum inflammation, then developed a targeted treatment plan using VETMEDIX high-energy laser precision excision. During the procedure, the high-precision positioning function of the VETMEDIX laser device accurately targeted the boundaries of the hyperplastic tissue, avoiding damage to surrounding healthy gums. The “One-Touch Hemostasis” technology effectively reduced the risk of wound exposure in the oral cavity. Post-treatment examination showed complete excision of the hyperplastic tissue with no residues.

Long-Term Follow-Up:
A one-month postoperative reexamination revealed that the patient’s gum color had returned to a normal light pink, with no recurrence of hyperplasia. The teeth exhibited good stability, and oral hygiene was well-maintained without recurrence of chronic inflammation. The owner reported, “Now it doesn’t resist teeth brushing at all, there’s no bad odor when leaning close, and it eats with great appetite every day, much more lively than before,” expressing great satisfaction with the results of the high-energy laser therapy.

结论

This case strongly demonstrates the significant efficacy of VETMEDIX small animal high-energy laser therapy in treating canine gingival hyperplasia with chronic inflammation. While precisely excising the hyperplastic gingival tissue, the high-energy laser provides minimally invasive intervention to the local oral area through photobiomodulation (PBM) effects. By improving local microcirculation in the gums, deeply reducing chronic inflammatory responses, quickly alleviating gum pain, and accelerating the repair of oral mucosa and gingival tissue, it not only completely removed the recurrent hyperplastic tissue but also resolved the long-standing gum inflammation, significantly shortening the oral wound healing period. Additionally, it avoided the drawbacks of easy recurrence associated with traditional scalpel surgery and the side effects of long-term antibiotic use for controlling oral infections and analgesic use for postoperative pain relief, ensuring both treatment efficacy and medication safety for the patient.
